What is an RGN Trailer?
RGN trailers – Removable Gooseneck Trailers – are one of the most commonly used trailers used to haul oversize loads. For example, heavy equipment that isn’t rated to drive along regular highways like backhoes, Caterpillar machines, and many other specialized pieces of equipment machinery. RGN trailers are created so the gooseneck in the front can be removed, making the trailer itself a ramp for easy equipment loading. Using an RGN trailer allows the drivable piece or pieces of equipment to easily ride up, then be secured and transported to your next job site.
Removable gooseneck (RGN) trailers are a mode of transport that has been made to have a detachable front part making them unique from the rest of the trailers. Once detached, it lowers down the trailer, which acts as the ramp making the loading and unloading process easy and fast. RGN trailers are mainly used for transporting heavy equipment, cars, and trucks, among others. Heavy equipment that can’t be driven through public roads is loaded on a suitable RGN trailer and secured for transport. Lowboy vs. RGN: What’s the Difference?
Regarding height and weight, certain lowboys are better, but what’s the difference between all the different types on the market? The most notable differences come in the loading functionality, hauling capacity, and costs.
Lowboy vs. RGN Hauling Capacity
The most important considerations when deciding between a lowboy and an RGN trailer are the weight capacity and well length. A two-axle lowboy trailer can support a maximum weight of 40,000 pounds. However, the weight capacity can be increased up to 80,000 pounds by adding additional axles. The length of a lowboy well ranges from 24’ to 29.6’. A 25’ well is perfect for hauling most equipment, such as bulldozers.
